The National Pension Scheme (NPS) is one of India’s most important public financial tools—a government-backed retirement savings initiative serving millions across the country. Yet for years, its digital experience lagged behind user expectations—overwhelmed by complexity, outdated interfaces, and limited accessibility. As India’s digital-first population grew, the need for an intuitive, human-centered redesign became urgent.

Lazy Eight was brought in to reimagine NPS at a national scale. This was not just a UX project—it was a population-level transformation. We partnered with Protean to completely overhaul the NPS app from the ground up, with a mission to prove that government platforms can feel as polished, empathetic, and intelligent as any world-class fintech product.

We led a complete redesign—UI, UX, content, and tech. Flows were rebuilt around real user behavior. Content was stripped of jargon. Each interaction was optimized for clarity, confidence, and speed. We introduced modular UI components, micro-interactions, and subtle animations to guide users gently through complex financial decisions—without overwhelming them.

The impact was immediate and tangible. The new NPS app has received overwhelmingly positive feedback since launch—praised for its simplicity, responsiveness, and trustworthiness. For Lazy Eight, it marked a milestone: a rare opportunity to modernize public infrastructure at national scale, and proof that thoughtful design and tech can impact not just brands, but billions.
